Particle size distribution

Particle size distribution analysis is one of the services offered by Alfatestlab for the characterisation of powder, suspension and emulsion products. Accurate particle size distribution over a representative number of particles is a key quality parameter for a variety of products in many industries.

Particle shape

The analysis of particle morphology is one of the services offered by Alfatestlab for the characterization of powders and liquid suspensions. In addition to particle size distribution, particle shape and agglomerates analysis deliver fundamental information for both R&D and troubleshooting of industrial processes.

High resolution SEM images

Alfatestlab provides scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images including elemental analysis EDX (Energy Dispersive X-ray Analysis) when required. SEM images and EDX analysis provide fundamental information with a resolution down to 10nm.

Real density/ Skeletal Density

Alfatestlab provides real density analysis of solids, powders and slurries using helium picnometry. Density is an important physical characteristic of materials. It is defined as the relationship between the mass of an object and its volume. Density indicates the amount of a material that occupies a defined volume at a certain temperature.

Surface area and porosimetry

Alfatestlab provides BET specific surface area, as well as pores dimensional distribution and volume analysis of solids and powders with gas physisorption techniques. Surface area and porosity are physical properties that influence the quality and behaviour of porous materials: materials with identical weight and volume but different specific surface area may differ in terms of surface activity and adsorption volume.

Rheology: viscosity and flow behaviour

In Alfatestlab we are experts in rheological characterization. We can support you to study the viscosity and viscoelastic properties of a wide range of fluids, semi-solid materials and dispersions: gels and hydrogels, body creams, toothpastes, oils, paints, inks, polymeric dispersions, bitumen, plastic materials, mayonnaises, jams, honey, etc.

Powder rheology

Alfatestlab provides a complete characterization of powder behaviour thanks to the use of the unique FT4 Powder Rheometer®. The characteristics of a powder are of fundamental importance in the good performances of innumerable industrial processes and in the performance of many products.

Thermal Analysis

Material characterization throught thermal analysis techniques: DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and STA (simultaneous thermal analysis, also known as TG-DTA or TG-DSC) instruments are available to perform studies upon a wide variety of materials.
